A Day To Honor And Remember Veterans

A full day of events will be held in Jefferson at Rotary Park to honor and remember the veterans who served our country.

Memorial Day Schedule Of Events

7:00 am Fun Run/Walk Registration Opens

Registration for The Schopen Schuffle, will be located at the intersection of W. Milwaukee St. & S. Gardner Ave. just north of the former Railroad Depot.

You can still register for the run/walk between 7:00 am and 8:00 am the day of the event.

8:00 am A Moment of Silence in Honor of Veterans

 

8:01 am The Schopen Schuffle Fun Run/Walk Starts

 

9:00 am to 3:00 pm The Jefferson Historical Museum

The Jefferson Historical Museum will be open featuring local Civil War Era memorabilia. Personal tours will be available.

10:15 am Dedication of Pavilion Commemorative Bricks, Donor Plaque & Flagpole

 

10:30 am Traditional Memorial Day Observance Featuring:

Performances by the Jefferson High School Band

  • The Presentation of Colors by the VFW & American Legion Color Guard
  • The Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout Troop 147
  • The National Anthem performed by the JHS Vocal Ensemble
  • POW/MIA Empty-Chair Salute & Marine Service by VFW Auxiliary
  • Key Note Address by Civil War Historian Ed Pierce
  • Muster Roll read by VFW Commander Ken Heitz, followed by the playing of Taps and Retiring the Colors by the Honor Guard.

Food

Immediately following the Memorial Day Ceremony, food & beverages will be available to purchase throughout the afternoon.

The VFW Auxiliary will offer BBQ Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Brats, Home-made pastries, Root Beer Floats, Custard Cones and Bottled Water.

Capn’s Catering will offer Grilled Chicken Dinners, Hamburgers, Beer & Soda

Music

  • 11:45 am to 1:00 pm The Historic 1st Brigade Civil War Band will perform authentic Civil War Era music on actual instruments from that period.
  • 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm The VanEskes perform popular hits of the 1960s and ‘70s.
